2016 was an exciting year for new businesses in Covington! We’re proud of the business growth in the urban core. We’re thrilled to welcome the following businesses, and the over 150 jobs they brought to the Renaissance district this year! Here’s to another great year!
Bad Girl Ventures: BGV opened in spring of 2016 in the old Tanino’s Cafe space at 114 West Pike Street. Focused on assisting female business owners by providing educational and financial resources and as well as offering a coworking space.
Boost Mobile: A one-stop telecommunication shop right at 623 Madison Avenue.
Buttercup Cake House: The always delicious Buttercup Cake House relocated from their Madison Avenue space to a larger space at 222 West Pike Street. Not only do they still produce their custom orders, but the new space allows for a sit down and take away area as well.
Choi Billiards: Opened at 506 Madison Avenue, right next to Wabi Sabi, Choi specializes in the game of billiards (which is different than pool we found out!)
Crepe Cafe: Tucked over at 212 West Pike Street, Crepe Cafe opened this summer with its selection of homemade sweet and savory crepes for both breakfast and lunch.
El Tercer Dia: Homemade Guatemalan food located right at 10th and Madison! This sit-down restaurant opened at the beginning of 2016.
Forcht Bank: The latest branch of Forcht Bank joined the urban core this December at 502 Madison Avenue.
The Globe: (Ribbon-cutting pictured above). Newly opened in the old Club Venus space, The Globe is a cocktail bar at 12 5th Street (directly next to newly opened House of Grill).
Handzy: Handzy, located at 15 Pike Street is a studio and retail shop dedicated to cards, stationery, all sorts of paper goods and other gifts. The Handzy team also provides design services.
The Hannaford The Hannaford is another welcome addition to the beverage scene in Covington. Located in the old Mutual building at the corner of Madison Avenue and Pike Street, the Hannaford features a wide range of cocktails, beer and wine.
House of Grill: House of Grill, Persian Restaurant: House of Grill is located at 14 East 5th Street (right next to The Globe bar). They offer up Persian specialities like kebabs, rice and veggie dishes. House of Grill is both dine in and takeout.
Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches: Jimmy John’s is a quick lunch option here in the district. Located at 627 Madison Avenue and open 11am – 9pm.
Odd Fellows Coworking Space: Located at 6 East 5th Street, Odd Fellows CoWork space allows businesspeople and entrepreneurs the flexibility of office space when they need it.
Smoke Justis: Named for the Covington Blue Sox player, Smoke Justis serves up wings and other bar food staples in a sports friendly atmosphere. Located at Park and Court Streets in Roebling Point, Smoke Justis also has a video arcade and live music.
